Alex (aka The Light Dreams) is an artist, and a good one, as his cover art shows. However, the field in which he is most at home, and indeed excels, is music.
I am primarily a visual artist, but I love music of all sorts, and from the time I first heard the Moog synthesiser played by Walter – now Wendy – Carlos I listened to electronic music whenever I could. Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre; I found that when I was working the music created by these artistes would often inspire me.
It was only quite recently that I became aware of the work of composer and musician Alex Storer, and I was delighted when he told me that my space art inspired him! So now it is reciprocal: thanks to becoming his friend I now have a large and probably unequalled collection of music by The Light Dreams, and I listen to it while I am working, whether on my Mac or on a large canvas. I find that it creates just the right atmosphere to complement space art, and whether it is a quiet, idyllic landscape or a scene of cosmic violence, there is always something in my collection that provides the right mood.
In FUTURE WORLDS, you will find many such moods, and this album rewards frequent returns, as you will find something new with each listen.
